Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts, look for a high of 83°F today and 79°F tomorrow. Skies remain mostly sunny until Sunday when thunderstorms will move into the area. Some of which could be severe.
For copyright reasons Springfield News Journal does not use the FH Factor to rate the chance of a tornado. We have our own model called the V-Factor or "vortex factor". The scale is as follows.
- VF-0 - Zero chance for rotation or a tornado
- VF-1 - Slight risk for rotation or a tornado
- VF-2 - Enhanced risk for rotation or a tornado
- VF-3 - High chance for a tornado
- VF-4 - A funnel cloud has been sighted , marked rotation is present or a tornado has been sighted on the ground.
For Sunday we're looking at a VF-2 with a enhanced risk for ratation off the leading edge of the system. As the system moves into our temporary warm air, it will bring with it a mass of cool air, creating a scenario just behind the leading edge where a tornado or rotation isn't entirely impossible.
Expect the biggest threat for severe activity to roll in around 2pm on Sunday. Stay tuned to Springfield News Journal for all your local weather updates.
